2. CHOOSING YOUR TILE EDGE

Ceiling tiles are available with different edge details. This is generally a design feature rather than being performance related.

The square edge tiles can be called “flat edge”or “board edge”.

The reveal edge tiles tend to be more expensive as they provide a superior interior aesthetic. Reveal edge tiles sit into the framework and drop a little lower than the grid level which helps give the illusion of hiding the grid from a distance. These are often called “Tegular” (for 24mm grid) or “Microlook” (for 15mm grid) (sometimes referred to as “rebated”, “dropped” and “stepped” ceiling tiles).

3. CHOOSING YOUR GRID WIDTH

Choosing your grid width does not relate to the tile size, instead it refers to the metal gridwork your tile sits within. As you look up at the ceiling, you will see metal (white) dividing strips (called ceiling grid) which support the tiles. You need to measure this section only. These crosssections will be either 24mm or 15mm wide.

This is important to get right because if you have a stepped edge tile (reveal edge), choosing the incorrect grid width will mean your tiles won’t fit. The T24 (Tegular) edge tiles suit the 24mm grid system, whereas the T15 (Microlook) edge suits only the narrow 15mm grid. They cannot be interchanged.
